Heather Cock
Heather graduated as an Osteopath from RMIT with honours (a 5 year double degree in osteopathic science and clinic science). After graduating, Heather moved to Queensland and worked in various Osteopathic clinics before travelling to Ireland to teach and practice Osteopathy in Dublin. During this period she travelled to London intermittently to work at the Osteopathic Centre for Children where she gained valuable clinical experience in Paediatrics. This was further enhanced by her osteopathic treatment experience in a Romanian Orphanage. While in Paris, Heather attended a Paediatric course and one year later a residential placement with Osteopathic Paediatric Specialist, Dr. Viola Frymann, San Diego, USA.
She has also studied under Dr Braden Keil, a Paediatric Chiropractor, who is going through the course material of a paediatric fellowship program. Through her career Heather has been developing her interest in Paediatrics and Osteopathy in the cranial field. During this period she has under taken eight post graduate cranial courses both in Australia and New Zealand from internationally renowned Osteopaths.
Heather’s existing patient base consist of approximately 70% children and newborns with referrals from maternal health nurses, gymbaroo, school teachers, allied health practitioners and existing patients. As an Osteopath, she is passionate about treating children with intra-uterine and/or birth trauma and any musculoskeletal affects of physical and/or emotional trauma throughout the child’s life. If these issues are not treated the child’s natural development may be affected therefore preventing that child reaching their full potential.
The osteopathic technique Heather specialises in treating children is called cranial osteopathy, which is a very gentle hands on treatment working with the rhythmic motion within the body to restore functional mobility of the musculoskeletal system and associated neurological, lymphatic, and vascular systems. Cranial osteopathy is very relaxing for babies and children and can have enormous benefit with such conditions as colic, reflux, recurrent ear infections, breast-feeding issues, irritability, sleep difficulties, behavioural problems, learning difficulties, ADHD, co-ordination difficulties, constipation, headaches, and bedwetting.
